Real Man-Marlon Brando

Ha-cha-cha Marlon Brando.  It's hard for me to talk about him without sounding like a dime novel, but I'll try.

When we started the Real Man series we described it as "men that every guy wants to be and every woman wants to be with" enter Marlon Brando.   When I think of Brando I think of raw masculine energy, from the rolls he played throughout his career to his personal life very few men come close.

There is one story from his autobiography that seems to express just how much masculine energy he must have had.  Apparently one night, in his early career, he had a young attractive woman come to his house.  Long story short, she offered to wash his feet and Marlon was taken aback but agreed.  The woman proceeded to wash his feet, dry them with her hair, and then make love to him.  Gotta say I don't know too many men that have had this experience or ever will.  Clearly the woman had an obsession, but I also can't say I blame her.

P.S. Check out this fun video of him playing the bongos.

Real Man-Steve McQueen

In my mind Steve McQueen is the image of a real American man.  His rugged looks have put him on lists as one of Hollywood's sexiest men, while his personality and fearlessness created the image of one of Hollywood's toughest men.

Steve McQueen's early years were anything but easy, his father abandoned he and his alcoholic mother when McQueen was still at an early age, he later joined a gang and left home when he was 14.  McQueen had said about himself "if I hadn't made it as an actor, I might have wound up a hood."  McQueen took a number of jobs before acting including, the circus, working as a lumberjack, on an oil rig, working in a brothel, and joining the Marines.  It's no wonder that he became know for his tough exterior as an anti-hero.

McQueen is probably best known for his rolls in The Great Escape and Bullit, where he demonstrates his true life love of motorcycle and car racing.  Whenever the insurance companies allowed McQueen would do his own riding and driving.  These passions later came out in his two documentaries, Le Mans and On Any Sunday, both of which were pivotal in bringing attention to the sports

Just so cool.

Real Man-Ernest Hemingway

Another weekly series I’m really excited about is dedicated to real men. Men that every guy wants to be and that every woman wants to be with. Men that drink whiskey neat, eat their steaks rare, and never need a band-aid.

To kick if off we thought, Hemingway. Is there anyone more of a man than Ernest Hemingway? He fought in WWI, traveled, hunted, fished, got drunk and started fights, and had a way with the ladies, such a man. And he could express it all through his writing, as well as some of the best words I’ve read about being in love. As one of my favorite writers Hemingway embodies what it means to be a real man.
